Fitter and Faster Swim Campsis the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Egle Salu of Rakvere, Estonia, has committed to swim and study at Cal, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. She trains year-round with Kalevi Ujumiskool in Tallinn.
The breaststroke specialist made the announcement on social media, writing:
I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of California-Berkeley!!!! Huge thank you to my family and friends for supporting me throughout this whole recruiting process. Special thanks to my coach Martti and teammate Lars for the encouragement! Can’t wait to join the Cal family! Go Bears!
The Estonian most recently competed at the European Junior Championships in July, where she walked away with silver in the 50 breast. She clocked 31.19 in that final after logging 30.98 in prelims, which just missed her lifetime best of 30.97 from the Akvile Lietuvos Plaukimo Cempionatas meet in April. In the 100 breast, she took 28th in 1:11.36, almost two seconds shy of her 1:09.39 best from the same April competition.
She’s been a mainstay on the European Junior circuit since 2023. At the 2023 edition, she touched 37th in the 50 breast (33.54), 31st in the 100 breast (1:12.14), and 35th in the 200 breast, where her time of 2:39.15 remains her personal best.
In 2024, Salu logged 31.63 for fourth in the 50 breast, 1:11.59 for 23rd in the 100 breast, and finished in 2:39.42 to take 25th in the 200 breast.
Salu’s best times convert to 1:00.71 and 2:19.77 in short course yards. Converted times are not 100% accurate and should be viewed as approximations, but they help provide some perspective on how her performances could translate into the shorter pool. f she transitions smoothly, she’s in position to challenge for the team’s best sprint breaststroker, especially for the 50 breast leg of the 200 medley relay.
- 50 Breaststroke: 30.97 (26.99)
- 100 Breaststroke: 1:09.39 (1:00.71)
- 200 Breaststroke: 2:39.15 (2:19.77)
The Cal women, led by head coach Dave Durden, placed 4th at the 2025 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships. It marked their first season in the conference after claiming the last-ever Pac-12 Championship in 2024.
At the 2025 NCAA Championships, they jumped three spots to finish 8th overall after back-to-back 11th-place finishes. They brought in a total of 202.5 points, coming in just seven points behind 7th-place Louisville. It was a rebound of sortsafter earning their lowest finishes since 1996 in 2023 and 2024.
Salu will join a breaststroke group that is heavily rebuilding with two top-tier commits just arriving on campus. The #12-ranked recruit in the high school class of 2025, Elle Scott, had the fastest 100 breast time in the class at 58.56. This will make her the only swimmer on the Cal team under 59 seconds in the event, and puts her just outside of ‘A’ final scoring position at NCAAs, coming in at 13th overall with 58.30 placing 8th.
Scott’s 200 breast of 2:08.62 would have been first alternate last year, less than a tenth outside of finals scoring position.
The Golden Bears also now have Norwegian Worlds qualifier Silje Slyngstadli. She was 29th in the 100 breast at the World Championships in Singapore and her best time of 1:07.53 converts to 59.83, which is about three tenths over the cutline.
Cal had one individual breaststroke scorer last year in rising seniorAbigail Herscu. Her 2:08.47 in the 200 breast garnered her 8th at NCAAs. She also swam the 100 breast, finishing 28th with a new career best of 59.97.
Salu joins the Golden Bears’ class of 2030 with Isabel Wolk, Ava DeAnda,Kelsey Zhang,Madeline Kohel, andHalle West.

Congratulations, welcome to Cal! Excited to see you compete for the Bears!
On another note, I forgot what it was like to have depth on the women’s roster. There’s an incredible amount of talent on the roster, and having options feels like a luxury we haven’t had in a couple of years. Even in the current year, there are clearly options for a couple of the relay legs.
